Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge
TIME TO REFLECT
⠀
At 6am Sunday morning I set out to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge ⠀
⠀
38.6km and 5200ft of elevation with a cut off time of 12 hours ⠀
⠀
Now, I'm a relatively fit individual. The physical side of it wasn't too demanding in all honesty but as the last couple of days have passed I've had time to think about it a bit more⠀
⠀
More about the choices made that put me in that position in the first place. ⠀
⠀
England kicked off their eagerly anticipated start to the Euros at 2 pm on Sunday. Right around the time, I was making my way up the third peak. In times gone by would I have priorities a 'pint in the sun with the lads watching the game' rather than getting out and being active? More than likely yes, to be honest ⠀
⠀
But I think things are different now. ⠀
𝗪𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲. ⠀
𝗪𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲.⠀
⠀
Too often pre-covid (and I was one of these people) it was too easy to make an excuse why not to stay active. ⠀
"𝙄'𝙢 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙮"⠀
"𝙂𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙤𝙣" ⠀
"𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩"⠀
⠀
But then being surprised when we don't make the progress we want. Whether that being with injury and rehabilitation or with your PT. ⠀
⠀
Short-term enjoyment for long-term dissatisfaction.⠀
⠀
I completed the challenge in just under 9 hours with a nearly 60-year-old mountain goat. My Dad. ⠀
⠀
Will I look back on that day with more memories than watching Sterling scuff one in? Absolutely.⠀
⠀
Are making the right choices in health and fitness one of the key attributes to success? Most definitely.⠀
⠀
Should your health be a priority above other external commitments? Unquestionably.⠀
⠀
Do I believe it's coming home? 𝟭𝟬𝟬%
